PROGRAM:

Kristi Thibaut 092309
Craig introduced Kristi Thibaut, Texas State Representative from the 133rd District.  She is a freshman congress woman who lives in Briargrove Park and represents most of us who live and work in the area.

Texas still has its "Rainy Day Fund" of about $700 million.  We received $1.9 billion from the stimulus package and much of that has been applied to public education.  The school tax holiday is still in effect and is beneficial to many children in Texas for school supplies and clothes.  Many hospitals and the more rural parts of our state face a shortage of Doctors and nurses.  Funds have been made available to faculty members of medical schools, and nursing schools.  Texas needs additional 22,000 nurses.  HB 2154 provides for additional monies to physicians who agree to practice in rural or underserved areas for at least 3 to 4 years:  $25,000 for the first year and $55,000 for the final year.

Texas has 3 top tier universities; Texas A&M, UT and Rice; with U of H a close 4th.  Education is a primary priority for Kristi she and can always be counted on to support funding for education. Great program Craig.  Thanks Kristi.  Kristis Thibaut can be reached at 281-498-4558 or Google Thibaut.
