Robert called the meeting to order with 11 members present and one guest.  Gloria Lucas, with Alief ISD Interact visited with us.   Welcome.

ROTARY MOMENT:

Rotary firsts: 
  • 1917 Rotary endowment was established, which later became   The Rotary Foundation.
  • 1921 First Rotary Club in the British Isles was established in Scotland.
  • 1923 First U.S. President to address the Rotary Convention was Warren G. Harding.
  • 1929 Rotary Emblem was adopted at the Rotary Convention in Dallas, Texas. 
  • 1957 Paul Harris Fellowship was established whereby members are honored after a $1,000 donation to the Rotary Foundation.
  • 1968 First Club banner to orbit the moon; Space Center Club Banner by club member and astronaut Frank Borman.  Thanks George
 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Oct 31 - Nov 1: Wings Over Houston parking fundraiser. We need all hands on deck and  30+ volunteers each day.
  • November 6 Houston West Chamber of Commerce Veteran’s Day Luncheon.  Our table is full.
  • November 7 Rotary District  5890’s Rotary Foundation Seminar will be held at Loop 610 and Westpark from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
  • November TBA: HWRC will have a Rotary Fellowship where 4 of our members will be installed as new Paul Harris Fellows.
  • December 17 Winterland in Westchase.  Sausage on a stick will be the order of the day.

 
PROGRAM / CLUB ASSEMBLY:

Robert presided over a club assembly where we discussed our Wings Over Houston parking fundraiser.  We will need 35 to 40 volunteers per day, (October 31, and November 1) to park several thousand cars for attendees at what is expected to be a record crowd.  Next week following the meeting we will have an in depth discussion with Wayne Kennedy with  maps and details.  Please make a point to attend.
