ROTARY MOMENT:

George reminded us that Rotary is an international organization of thousands of individual clubs in hundreds of countries with many, diverse members, local customs, traditions and laws.  RI  promotes and encourages the respect and observance of  these many customs, laws, and traditions.    Thanks George.

  • Garry asked that the club consider donating  funds to a group of handicapped, disadvantaged kids from West Side High School that Ken Burgess, former member and sponsor of the Westside High School Interact Club, has identified. Garry and George will donate $100 each and the board voted to donate an additional  $500 to these needy kids.  Thanks to all.

  • Robert asked that each of us consider purchasing Christmas gifts from Brookwood Community at Westheimer and Seagler.

PROGRAM:

Christina Garza at Podium 121609
Gene introduced Christina Garza, Media Relations Manager of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Christina reported on her trip to France with Rotary’s Global Exchange Program.  She visited 20 Rotary Clubs, stayed with Rotarians, enjoyed the food, the culture, the wine, the language in several small villages in the south of France.  The largest city they visited was Toulouse.  Little known fact:  Texas is larger than France.

The people were friendly and welcoming.  She met the world fencing champion, Benoit. She is now engaged to him.  He is coming to Houston following their wedding and already has a job here.

Congratulations Christina and thanks.  Great program Gene.
