MEMBERSHIP MOMENT:

George enlightened us regarding the invocation and pledge of allegiance.  Though a custom in many clubs, the invocation is not a requirement and is usually non-denominational as there are in Rotary, many nations, creeds, and religious beliefs.  Silent invocations are also the norm in many clubs.  Thanks George.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • August 15th is the SAVE Alief Health fair.  Our club is responsible for parking.  Please call  Craig to sign up.
  • Robert announced that the board of directors voted last week to allow Travis LaGrone to be an honorary member of our club.  We hope that he will decide to be an active member of our club in the near future.  Welcome, Travis.
  • Robert asked that we check out our new and updated web site: www.westchaserotary.org.  Thanks Robert for your work with our web site.

MEMBERS ABSENT:

Susie, Dee, Travis, and Margaret.  We missed you.

WISDOM:

  • The highest form of success...comes...to the man who does not shrink from danger, from hardship or from bitter toil, and who out of these wins the splendid ultimate triumph.  Theodore Roosevelt, 26th US. President.
  • Strategic advantage lies in the leverage of knowledge.  Robert Buckman, leadership coach.

BOARD MEETING:
  • Robert reminded us that our Wings Over Houston project is a mere 2 1/2 months away.  We will need 35 to 40 adults each day on October 31, and November 1 to park cars.  That will be about 3 adults per member.  Please start planning for this activity.
  • Sarah will assist Jason with the Rotary Foundation details.
  • Robert discussed new guidelines for our scholarship students.
  • Garry discussed our water project in Jaipur City, India.  Due to a lack of compliance (below 70%) by District 3050 (includes Jaipur Pink City Rotary Club) with world reporting for previous projects, The Rotary Foundation and District 5890 has withdrawn funding for this project.  The board voted to approve the funding of one project and travel and expense funds for Jatin.
  • Garry will check with Bill Davis at the District to see if this violates any Rotary rules, regulations or procedures.
