He and his family dedicate at least one year of preparation and one year to fulfilling these responsibilities. Thanks, George.

PROGRAM:

Judy 081209Ed Robin Charlesworth
Judy Harwell, Lt. Governor, introduced District Governor Ed Charlesworth and his wife Robin.

Ed says that the 60 clubs in the district is divided into 6 regions, with a lieutenant governor of each, with an assistant district governor responsible for individual clubs. The 2009-2010 International Rotary motto is .....îThe Future of Rotary Is In Your Handsî. Presently there are 1.2 million Rotarians ìwaging peaceî in the world. The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation has given $355 million to assist Rotary (which has matched this gift with $200 million) for the eradication of polio worldwide. Rotary International is the only organization in the world that can cut through red tape, politics, and prejudices to accomplish the unprecedented medical accomplishment of the eradication of polio world wide.

Rotarians support local food banks; RI has just fed 1 million people in Honduras, drilling of water wells, providing clean, potable water to millions of people, literacy programs, and long and short term student exchange programs are sponsored by District 5890 and RI.

Ed at Podium
Governor Charlesworth mentioned that the HWCRC has donated $52,000 to The Rotary Foundation over the years. We have 11 Paul Harris Fellows and one benefactor. He asked that all members consider becoming a benefactor. Just add a codicil to your will donating $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation upon your death.

Robin announced that there will be a district fellowship at Minute Maid Park at an Astros game on September 27, 2009; it will also be a Polio Plus fundraiser. Sometime in the spring there will be a ballet fellowship; and the District conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency downtown April 22-24. Great program Governor, Thanks.
